General Information

The LI Annual Meeting of the Argentinian Biophysical Society (SAB) will take place from November 29 to December 1, 2023 in the city of Córdoba, Argentine.

Every year SAB organizes a meeting where the Argentinian biophysics community discusses recent advances in all fields of Biophysics. Attendance at the conference is not restricted to Argentinian citizens. SAB meetings always receive international experts who are leaders in their respective fields and students and researchers from other Latin American Countries.

This meeting, through plenary conferences. Symposiums, posters and oral communications under the "Lightning talks" format will address the following major thematic areas:

- Proteins and nucleic acids: Structure, conformation and dynamics of proteins and nucleic acids. Condensed phases of biomolecules.

- Lipids and biomembranes: Self-organization of lipid systems in aqueous and cellular media. Model membranes (micelles, vesicles, nanofilms, etc) and natural membranes. Theory and modeling. Physical bases of molecular, cellular and systemic processes.

- Transport, signaling and intracellular dynamics: Membrane transporters and exchangers. ion channels. Transporter ATPases. Membrane receptors and signal transduction. Regulation of cell volume. Cell mechanics and mobility.

- Water structure. Confined and overcrowded environments. Effects on protein activity and aggregation. Inclusion bodies. Interface hydration.

- Methodological and biotechnological developments: New techniques or quantitative methods for the study of biological systems. Biophysics of drug-carrying nanosystems.

annual meeting of the society provides a space (Round Table) for discussion on evaluation criteria in science and technology, including aspects related to scholarships, income and promotions in the CIC of Conicet, projects and critical analysis on the effect of the cost of publication in open access journals trying to provide proposals for local and regional actions. This symposium, open to the academic community, will take place on the last night of the Annual Meeting.

We are sure that the plenary lectures and symposia will lead to fruitful discussions that will spill over into the poster sessions. These discussions will allow researchers of all ages to develop collaborations that will promote development and broaden the perspective of their research.

SAB encourages initiatives by students and young researchers and sponsors the Youth Initiative in Biophysics (YIB), which is a group of students and young researchers founded in 2015 with the spirit of building a network of undergraduate students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers working in the diverse and rich fields of Biophysics to share ideas, inspiration and practical advice. These activities will foster collaborations and networking among young researchers, as well as strengthen ties of camaraderie and friendship.

Programme

The scientific program will include plenary talks and symposiums that will cover various thematic areas of interest in our Society. Topics include:

- Proteins and nucleic acids: Structure, conformation and dynamics of proteins and nucleic acids. biomolecular condensates.

- Lipids and biomembranes: Self-organization of lipid systems in aqueous and cellular media. Model membranes (micelles, vesicles, nanofilms, etc) and natural membranes. Theory and modeling. Physical bases of molecular, cellular and systemic processes.
